Become a Monthly Sustaining Donor

Whether we are funding surgery for an injured dog in our care, or arranging transportation for litters of rescued puppies or kittens from remote communities, the Victoria Humane Society has a major financial load to bear that is not covered by simple adoption fees. Once in our care, our animals are placed in foster homes or kennels for indefinite periods until adoption, and VHS incurs all costs along the way. Typical costs include food, medications, leashes, collars, and pet bedding. When we are short on foster homes, we incur the costs of kennel boarding. Becoming a Monthly Sustaining Donor is the lifeblood of our organization allowing us to do this work on a daily basis, and to continue doing it.

The great news is, with the support of donors and volunteers, we have rescued and rehomed over 700 animals in just two years. However, almost every day, new animals come into our care and our rescue costs are skyrocketing.

Our sweet Sammie is a great example of how VHS works. Sammie was unfortunately run over by her owner, and they were unable to pay for surgery to repair her broken leg and broken hip. Given Sammie’s fabulous disposition, we took her in, certain she would recover from surgery and find her forever home. Just look at that face! However, the cost for VHS to accept Sammie into our care and get her the surgery she needed has been significant – well over $5,000. When you consider that our adoption fee for Sammie is only $350, her next owner will benefit from a happy, healthy dog – that has also been spayed and had all her shots. VHS has countless ‘Sammie Stories’, so you can easily see how it all adds up for us. As such, we absolutely count on monthly donations to cover basic operational and extraordinary costs.

Why is Monthly Giving the Best Option?

Monthly giving is the best option for both the Victoria Humane Society and our supporters. It allows us to have a dependable base of support for the animals in our care and it ensures that we can continue our good works into the future. For our donors, it allows you to make a small monthly contribution and yet still play a major role in rescuing and rehoming animals that have no other recourse or voice to speak for them.

You are the lifeblood of our work on behalf of animals.

You are the lifeblood of our work on behalf of animals.

As a non-profit organization, the Victoria Humane Society depends entirely on donations from kind-hearted people like you. Every month, we rescue literally dozens of dogs and cats, and sometimes other small animals, many from horrific circumstances such as neglect, starvation and abuse. The associated costs of rescue are significant, from arranging transportation for the animals out of remote communities and into our care, to emergency medical bills to save animals lives, to spay and neuter costs, vaccinations, hospitalizations, medications and on-going food costs and incidentals. Monthly and one-time donors are literally our most critical form of support. We thank you for donating what you can today.
